Professional Development
NTPC fosters a learning environment that encourages and enables individuals to maximize their potential. We encourage and pay for courses, professional development and attendance at national and regional conferences. We also offer an education leave program for our employees.
NTPC has many long-term employees. In fact, the average length of service is over 9 years. We like to recognize our employees in a variety of ways including length of service awards, staff BBQs and golf events. Social committees organize and sponsor a variety of events that bring staff together for Holiday parties and fishing derbys.
Bursary Program
The Northwest Territories Power Corporation is dedicated to developing a skilled, committed and professional workforce and wants to encourage residents to further their education in order to develop a sustainable Northern workforce. The following Bursary Program is offered to assist students with their post-secondary education in an effort to empower residents to attain their career aspirations.
A $1,000 bursary will be offered for post-secondary education in any field the Corporation employs. Preference will be given to those students furthering their education in fields for which the Corporation is having challenges recruiting.
Summer Student Program
Are you looking for something different and challenging this summer? Maybe an opportunity to get real work experience. NTPC is a great place for all levels of students to gain meaningful practice in their field of study.
NTPC hires students for the summer to work in various areas of the Corporation. Some of the areas where students have worked in the past include:
- Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- Automations Communications Engineering
- Mechanical or Electrical Trades
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Information Technology/Computer Science
- Public Relations or Communications
- Finance/Economics/Commerce
- Administration
NTPC has various summer student employment opportunities available. Students must be enrolling/enrolled in diploma or degree programs this fall.
Apprenticeship Program
As an apprentice, you will learn the latest industry standards and technology while you get hands-on experience. It allows you to make money while training in your trade. Apprentices taking an apprenticeship program shall return to the Corporation.
